Fossil was founded in 1984 by Tom Kartsotis. He was influenced by classic American designs and this led to Fossil creating a line of casual and dress watches that are stylish, functional and affordable.
Fossil watches were styled with the 50's and 60's in mind. The superb advertising campaign based on adverts from the 40's, 50's and 60's reinfroced the image that Fossil wanted to portray. In 1955 eye wear was introduced and in the 1990's Fossil expanded from watches to quality leather goods. Concessions were openning up in New York's department stores like Macy's whilst expansion continued Internationally taking Fossil retro to the world.
In 1996 Fossil.com was launched, becoming one of the first on-line retailers and they also began openning several company owned accessory stores. The 2000's saw Fossil join forces with fashion designers DKNY, Diesel and Emporio Armani, and today Fossil produces over 300 different styles.
